Triennial of Craftsmanship

We are happy to announce, that the ten projects chosen in the open call Connecting Contemporary Design, Craftsmanship, are now on display at the Triennial of Craftsmanship in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška until 19 November 2023. The curators of the exhibition are Dr. Cvetka Požar (Museum of Architecture and Design), Dr. Tanja Roženbergar (Slovene Etnographic Museum) and Maja Vardjan (Museum of Architecture and Design).

Craftsmanship exhibitions in Slovenj Gradec have a rich tradition and are one of the most important events for presenting handmade products. Since the first exhibition of domestic and artistic crafts in 1977, the social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions have changed significantly. The new edition of the Triennial of Craftsmanship reflects these altered conditions in the field of craft cultures and highlights the relevance of such processes. The exhibition contributes to the understanding of the craft sectors in the context of the 21st century’s time and society.

The exhibition features 38 products selected through a public call for the Triennial of Craftsmanship and Crafts, organized by a consortium of partners, as well as 10 products chosen through a public call for the Integration of Contemporary Design, Craftsmanship, and Crafts, announced within the Distributed Design Platform by the Centre for Creativity. These products will also be presented at the Museum of Architecture and Design at the end of 2023.

The 10 chosen Slovenian creators have, with the help of financial incentives by Centre for Creativity/MAO and Distributed Design Platform, designed a new product or made a significant update to an existing one.

Read about the chosen works and their creators in the Distributed Design Talent section: Stories of Silver, Ko?evje Canopy, VuVu, Disfunction, Kaduja, ?ebelino, Glaze made of construction waste, Corn Dolly, Oreika and Quilt of Life.

Jury prizes were awarded at the Triennial of Craftsmanship and we are glad to say, that two of our chosen projects got awarded. ?ebelino (by Rok Oblak and Luka Pleskovi?) received the award of the expert committee and Oreika (by Lara Baler and Boris Ou?ek) received special recognition of the expert committee.
