About the project

The brass spoon series are a stylised interpretation of the greatest Slovenian architect Jože Ple?nik’s elements that inspire us to this day with originality, sensibility towards the user and sensitivity to materials, symbols and countless superbly executed details. The coffee spoons derive from classical forms that are at the base of his design doctrine and furthermore underline his idea to create something meaningful and more beautiful from a simple, humble material.

The brass spoons (originally created as a set with a porcelain coffee cup, both a reinterpretation of the same classical form that Jože Ple?nik, Slovenia’s greatest architect and a well-known coffee lover, had used more than a century ago) are born at the occasion of 150th anniversary of his birth. He has left an immortal legacy throughout Slovenia as well as elsewhere in Europe, signed by incredibly original architectural and design oeuvre. He cherished brass as a humble and relatively inexpensive material that can be emplyed to create a striking effect, and has in fact used it extensively in his work. The form of the spoons and material manipulation is inspired by Ple?nik’s design elements, with an added touch of modernity.
