About the project
Yasmin Proksch is the co-founder of YAGA, a design label producing sustainable leather goods.
YAGA was founded by Yasmin Proksch & Gabriel Roland in late 2014 whilst they were both studying Textile Design in England. They were collaborating on a different project when Yasmin had the idea to make a cardholder as a christmas gift. Back home in Vienna, it didn’t take long for them to design a whole range of accessories, utilising the laser cutter and Rolaminate.
In late 2016 Yasmin took over YAGA as her own and replaced Rolaminate with recycled leather, sourcing offcuts from a German manufacturer. Together with her Grandmother, who is sewing almost every piece by hand, she’s running the business since.
YAGA takes its responsibility in preserving our planet seriously. That is why they always strive to find their own ways of sustainable producing high-quality accessories.
?
YAGA’s main focus is to avoid leather waste. By cooperating with a German manufacturer of leather goods whose offcuts they acquire, YAGA is able to offer products made from a wide range of quality leathers without having to rely on newly produced materials. Their flexible manufacturing process with digital fabrication tools in the local Fab Lab in Vienna enables them to even work with the smallest scraps.
In combination with their use of recycled leather fibre materials as well as their focus on urban production and regional supply routes this means that YAGA can make its contribution to saving resources and energy.
