About the project
Through the Luminous Process project, we aimed to blend creativity with technology to develop unique light objects. At the heart of this endeavor is our exploration of how to effectively integrate AI tools into our creative design process. We are testing different tools, assessing their possibilities and discovering how they can enhance creative workflows. Our goal is to foster a playful and dynamic creative space where design and technology intersect in unexpected ways. Think of AI as an expert friend, always happy to collaborate and assist.
Throughout this exploration, we have experimented with shapes, textures, and materials, leading to the development of modular light objects. These objects allow for flexible customization, with components and materials such as light transmitting acrylic and structural steel elements that can be individually exchanged and arranged to adapt to the desired installation and use.
Our fabrication process is intentionally iterative and locally produced, leveraging the vast possibilities of the open workshop at Happylab Vienna. This enables rapid prototyping and hands-on exploration in a collaborative environment, allowing designs to evolve naturally through an ongoing cycle of making and testing.
About the designers
Helena and Eric met during their design studies at HAWK in Hildesheim. They later moved to Vienna together. Helena is a lighting designer with a background in light and colour design. Eric is a self-employed artist and software developer with a degree in metal and product design.
Together, they explore new design and fabrication techniques, combining their expertise to develop aesthetically appealing and functional products and installations. Their work is driven by curiosity, experimentation and the joy of turning ideas into physical creations.
