Win a Scholarship for Fabricademy Barcelona 2021-2022

Distributed Design Platform and Fab Lab Barcelona at IAAC are offering two scholarships for Europe based designers to attend Fabricademy Barcelona 2021-22.

Postgraduate Diploma in Fabricademy: Textile and Technology Academy (Fabricademy Barcelona) is a 6-month course at the intersection of digital fabrication, textiles and biology. It hopes to benefit and increase the number of designers and creatives that self-produce goods and stimulate new forms of material and textile design.

Distributed Design is a European Platform co-Funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. It aims to support and connect creatives, designers, makers, and innovators to participate in the creation of a new model of production and consumption – Distributed Design envisions a world in which “bits travel globally, while atoms stay local.” The Platform is coordinated by Fab Lab Barcelona and comprises 17 member organisations from 13 countries in Europe including the Danish Design Centre, Innovation Centre Iceland and Polifactory, Politecnico di Milano. The platform delivers over 40 events yearly to audiences on and offline of over 1 million. Platform activities include residencies, Awards and Summer Schools, in 2021 this may also include programming such as Maker to Market Accelerator, which Scholarship winners will be invited to join.

The scholarship covers 40% of the total tuition costs of the Fabricademy program for two designers as well as the opportunity to participate in yearly activities of the Distributed Design Platform.

The program explores the interrelation of human-technology-environment through the notions of embodiment, materiality, ecodesign, biodesign, performance, smart textiles and digital fabrication.

Fabricademy at Fab Lab Barcelona equips students with the skills and knowledge to become key players in an emerging sustainable future of textiles. Through the program, we are developing and implementing a new approach on how to create, produce and distribute textile and fashion elements, by using distributed manufacturing infrastructures and knowledge networks.

Through hands-on learning techniques and critical reflection, students are mentored by Anastasia Pistofidou, co-founder of Material and Textile research body FabTextiles at Fab Lab Barcelona, and Fabricademy. The international IAAC environment welcomes students from 68 countries and over 200 disciplines, which provides all students on campus the opportunity to expand their professional and personal experiences.
