About the project

Tattie Toys

Tattie Toys is a bioplastic fossil making kit that raises awareness about the plastic waste issue and the importance of material choices through the hands-on activity of making. The kit is aimed towards children, who are the next influential generation and should be equally aware of the plastic waste issue.

The process of the kit involves extracting starch from an old potato and then piping the bioplastic starch mixture into a wooden dinosaur tile. These tiles are then hung on the wall as a fun collectable item for children. The whole activity of making a bioplastic causes children to think about what bioplastics are and ask why they are important, resulting in a raised awareness.
