About the project

InnovaUse is an open source earphone case desgined to avoid intertwining and knots. The product was designed to take advantage of open plastic recycling techniques as part of the Sun Powered Plastic Recycling open call.

The InovaUse product is specifically designed to store wired earphones and aims to solve the problem of not having something to store them in—they end up tangled or knotted. The existing pouches are not practical enough and are not very functional, as the wires also get tangled inside them. What’s more, in order to use the earphones we have to take them out of the bag, untangle them if necessary, put the bag back and only then can we use them. This wastes a lot of time if you want to answer calls quickly or listen to music.

The main objectives of the development of this product are:

  1. Avoid the earphones getting tangled.
  2. Good storage and use: To make storage and use as quick and practical as possible, in which the product would be built into the earphone cord itself and would make the process much quicker, both when storing and using them. And so the wires would always look tidy.
  3. Reasonable size: The product needs to be as small as possible in order to be practical to use and transport. We wanted to create a portable and lightweight product.
  4. 2-in-1: As the product is built into the earphone cord itself, we don’t need to take them out of the pouch to use them, just pull them out when we want to use them and roll them back up when we want to put them away.
  5. Something to attach/carry: It contains a piece that allows the user to attach it to their bag, around their neck or any other preference.
  6. Environmentally sustainable model: We’re working with recycled plastic projects to promote sustainability. In particular, we will produce the product in HDPE plastic. This type of plastic has more flexibility than others, which is necessary for the object to function.
  7. Distributed and open design: Anyone can access, iterate and reproduce our project. Additionally, the product can also be printed on a 3D printing machine, depending on the desired size.
