About the project
Helium Living by Aske Haslund Fabech is a Danish design company focusing on innovative small-space furniture.
Aske has since childhood had a passion for mechanics and problem-solving. He’s a dropout from mechanical engineering at DTU, where his path got him deeply involved with SKAARHOJ, a video hardware startup. Recently, Aske has focused entirely on designing innovative small-space furniture and founded Helium Living in 2022.
The mission of Helium Living is for everyone to desire smaller spaces, and we design innovative small-space furniture to accelerate the necessary transition of the building industry.
The mission of Helium Living is for everyone to desire smaller spaces. Our homes, buildings, and infrastructure require enormous resources and account for more than 1/3 of the global CO2 emissions and waste. Recent scientific research concludes it’s impossible to make the building industry sustainable if we don’t downsize our spaces to around 30m2 pr. person. Therefore excellent interior design is necessary for a transition into a sustainable building and construction industry. At the same time, Helium Living is also about responsible manufacturing, and we use digital fabrication technology to enable local manufacturing at micro-factories. We are currently scaling our production in a micro-factory in Copenhagen.
Aske is currently exploring the potential of distributed design and production as part of his business model. Currently collaborating with local Copenhagen-based producers – Quirky Moose and community members of Maker – to test this model.
His designs are all developed for digital fabrication, transparent design typologies and locally sourced materials.
