About the project
The Crystal Project transforms formal highs chool education from a linear model to a circular model in a STEM+ innovation space. Through a yearly long sequence of activities, students are given autonomy to address real world issues with practical skills and knowledge.
1. Open Mic: 1 time a month, students are given a chance to present their topics to explore in front of the club. All club members vote to select a topic for the next stage.
2. Field Work: 1 time a month, the topic selected from the last month’s open mic will be developed into a field work for students to better feel the topic.
3. Design Challenge happens during summer. It enables project coaches and students to immerse themselves into real world issues and collaborate to find viable solutions and reflect on their own future academic interest.
4. Incubator is where students have half a year to continue their projects and develop them into a high school capstone level project.
We are living in an era of complete globalization. Education is no different than other fields such as supply chain, and also runs at a high speed, top-down model. Grounded in countless cases we’ve witnessed in preceding projects, we see our next generation, students who are supposed to be the ultimate aim of education, are treated as unconscious subjects and passively receive arrangement in this top-down model. Inspired by the PITO-DIDO model, we see a possibility to amend the current system, and empower students more autonomy in designing their own paths to explore the world. Here comes the idea of Crystal Project.
Crystal Project is developed by Litchee Lab, an innovative educational team based in Shenzhen, China. Dating back to 2014, Litchee Lab has implemented diverse educational programs in local communities, including open makerspaces, STEAM curriculum development with local school partners, and 1v1 student innovative project incubation.
