Open call for contributors is live for the 2025 Distributed Design book!

The Distributed Design publication open call is live!

With great pleasure, we invite you to submit an abstract for Driving Design Volume III, the last of seven publications developed within the Distributed Design Platform.

This edition explores the structures that shape design and how our community challenges and reimagines the current design paradigm through the (re)distribution of making, knowledge, value, and power. As the final edition in this series, the volume will close with collaborative visions for the future of Distributed Design.

Each publication in this series aims to inspire, share collective visions, and demonstrate the many ways Distributed Design is practised locally and globally. As a pluriverse, we celebrate diverse ways of knowing, being, and doing. Our goal is that the authors and contributions featured in Driving Design Vol. III reflect the incredible richness of our ecosystem. By amplifying our community’s voices, we hope to cultivate a living archive of ideas and practices that fuel the ongoing evolution of Distributed Design.

Submission types & formats

We welcome articles, reviews, and profiles and encourage contributors to explore creative submission formats and styles. In addition to text-based submissions, we’re now welcoming visual and graphic-based submissions. From essays to how-tos, zines to augmented reality, or something else entirely, we’re excited to expand how contributions can come to life in this year’s edition. Please refer to the Submission Process & Guidelines for details on the timeline, format, and content for submissions.

Contributors

Anyone engaging with Distributed Design can submit: we welcome first time and seasoned contributors alike. We also believe that design has been gatekept and that it’s crucial to re-center those of us who have been historically excluded. We particularly encourage submissions from folx who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, migrants, or neurodivergent; folx who have disabilities or previous experience with the justice system; folx who come from across dimensions of sociocultural origin, religious affiliation, literacy levels, social status and age; and folx who are at the nexus of these identities or members of other historically excluded and or/marginalised communities.

Accessibility

We’re committed to making the submission process as accessible as possible. If you have any specific needs or require accommodations please reach out to us. We’re happy to work with you to ensure your contribution can be submitted and reviewed in a way that works best for you.

Ready to contribute?

Please read the Submission Process & Guidelines for important details. Submissions are accepted in the Typeform below until 23:59h CET on November 17, 2024.
