About the project
Still Life is a design workshop based in Glasgow making furniture and objects from recycled plastic and sustainably sourced Scottish hardwood. The studio was started by two friends with the aim to challenge people’s perceptions of waste and encourage its use as a resource.
They began working with recycled plastic in 2017 using machines they built and techniques learnt from Precious Plastic, an open-source community of designers, activists, artists and engineers who came together to tackle global plastic pollution.
Releasing four collections a year, once a season, they make stools, vases, dough scrapers, trays and coasters and are currently developing some new products to be released early next year. They also take on private commissions and collaborate with like-minded designers, artists and farmland animals. They produced the PPE Stool top proof of concept for Dress for the Weather’s ‘PPE Material Flows’ collaborative research.
