About the project

Skydial consists of two sundial alike structures which work with light as a tool for orientation. Depending on our location in the world, season, or time of the day the way the sky looks is always unique. Its hues provide us with information that allows us to connect to the world, to the pace of the day, and adjust our own bodily rhythm.

The sky plays a prominent role in the work, where sky images emerge as representations of the many expressions of the sky. The work engages its perceivers by reflecting images of the sky in real-time during the day and at night by fading in and fading out, twelve skies photographed by André Maia in different locations around the world.

Skydial invites us to take a break and travel to another location, to a random memory or to enjoy the reflection of the skyscape.

Skydial was exhibited during 3daysofdesign in June 2022 and developed as part of a residency hosted by Maker as part of Distributed Design Platform.
