About the project
Air quality data exists. What is missing is the human layer, the testimony of people who have
been breathing poor air for decades without being asked how if feels. What Does The Air Say? is a short-run community radio and podcast series that puts those two things together: real sensor readings from CitiObs monitoring tools, and the voices of Bristol residents who live inside those numbers every day.
About the project’s approach
Each episode is anchored to a specific Bristol neighbourhoods, places where environmental
inequality maps visibly onto race and class. Residents are trained as co-producers and soundscape recorders. They choose what the data means to them. The gap between how a street feels and what the sensors measure is where the story lives.
