About the project
TINGLES
Tingles was Niki’s final-year major project and the idea behind it was to create accessories that incorporate ASMR in their design. ASMR can be simply described as a variety of soothing sensations (e.g. tingles), due to a variety of gentle stimuli (e.g. light touches, methodical sounds). People watch ASMR videos predominantly on YouTube, so I saw a gap in the market where ASMR-tailored products could exist for those who watch it as a relaxation technique or sleep aid.
Since I was looking at creating ASMR accessories, I thought of starting with a bag to visualise what taking ASMR everywhere would look like. Over the first lockdown, I learned how to use a 1911 Singer and started prototyping. I focused on the physical sensations that the fabrics and other materials would afford the user, which would connect them to the product.
