The project is to design products with my graphic approach to make the forms from the sea more visible in our Icelandic environment. Trying to reflect that Iceland is a fishing nation.

About the designer

Örn Smári Gíslason is an Icelandic graphic designer, art director, and founder of Sæflúr, a project that explores patterns and forms inspired by the sea. With a career spanning over two decades, he has worked with leading advertising agencies and independently since 2004, specializing in branding, typography, and vector illustration.

A graduate of the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts, Örn Smári has designed over 100 stamps for Iceland Post, commemorating historical and cultural milestones, including Icelandic sovereignty, RÚV’s 50th anniversary, and the FIFA World Cup. His work has received numerous national and international design awards, including recognition from European Design Awards, Graphis, and Wolda.

Through Sæflúr, he merges his passion for marine life and design, creating intricate patterns based on the organic forms of fish and oceanic elements. His work has been exhibited widely, including at DesignMarch 2024 in Reykjavík.
