About the project
The Cordoba Smart City Fund, the first govtech fund in Latin America, is an initiative of the Government of the city of Córdoba through which it invests in high-impact innovative startups.
The Fund works as an open innovation program in the public sector where the government works together with invested startups to implement solutions that contribute to the development of a more intelligent, inclusive and sustainable city.
From 2022 to date, the Fund has invested more than $1.5 million in 16 startups. Thanks to this public-private linkage program, circular economy, accessibility, education, mobility and digitization solutions have been implemented, improving the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of citizens.
This innovative public policy put the city of Córdoba at the forefront in terms of public policies for innovation.
The Fund has the support of the IDB Lab and the recognition of prestigious organizations such as CAF, SEGIB and OECD.
Among some of the solutions implemented, the urban farm project with the local startup Loopfarms stands out. In Córdoba, two urban farms have already been installed near gastronomic poles where organic waste from restaurants is taken and recycled and energy is generated from a micro biogas plant. With this energy, they produce vegetables in the form of microgreens, which have great added value using the hydroponics technique. This enables the project to focus on the circular economy linked to the gastronomic sector, which is the area where the largest amount of wet waste is generated in the city.
