About the project
Greeneye is an open-source and modular system composed of a drone and a rover, designed for advanced agricultural field analysis. The drone performs aerial surveys, capturing images to assess the health of crops, while the rover serves as a mobile charging station and supports additional sensors for ground monitoring.
Greeneye is designed to be built in FabLabs using easily accessible electronic components available online, promoting the spread of advanced precision agriculture solutions at low cost.
The system enables the collection of critical data to optimize agricultural resources, improve productivity, and reduce environmental impact, providing a powerful tool for farmers, researchers, and local communities.
By combining a drone and a rover, Greeneye offers a flexible and adaptable solution tailored to the specific needs of any agricultural environment, ensuring effective monitoring from both the air and the ground.
About the project’s approach
The drone and rover have been designed to be easily adaptable to various agricultural use cases without requiring extensive modifications to their core design. This approach ensures that the system remains highly versatile while maintaining structural integrity and ease of reproduction. By focusing on a modular and open-source architecture, we allow users to customize and expand functionalities based on specific needs, such as different types of sensors, data collection methods, or navigation preferences.
The adaptability of the system does not compromise its simplicity or accessibility. Instead, it enables farmers, researchers, and developers to implement changes efficiently without redesigning the entire system. This balance between customization and standardization ensures that Greeneye remains an open platform, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and widespread adoption in the precision agriculture field.
By maintaining an adaptable yet consistent design, we empower users to integrate new technologies and methodologies while keeping the system affordable and easy to build in FabLabs or makerspaces.
About the designers
Our team, made up of Tommaso Odorizzi, Matteo Leonardi, Giorgia Forloni, Yusuf Emre Duran, and Pietro Vanzella, consists of two automation engineers, one mechanical engineer, and two product designers. This balanced mix allowed us to simultaneously focus on mechanical design, automation integration and on the possibility of redesign it in order to make it suitable for the user’s needs.
