About the project
Biook is an open biology laboratory with a social and environmental purpose. We view science as an experience of inquiry and open, shared exploration in which everyone has the right to participate. We practise Do-It-Yourself Biology (DIYbio) and Citizen Science, two movements that have opened up science to public participation and contribution. We also bring science closer to everyone as a shared exploratory experience.
Projects
BIOOKLAB
Biooklab is a project to bring life exploration and scientific practice to families, students, and curious individuals. To this end, Biook develops experimental, educational, and sustainable STEAM kits and toys.
BIOOKLOGIA PODCAST
Biooklogia is a brand-new science and society podcast. The Biook team speaks with experts across various STEAM fields, aiming to explore scientific knowledge in relation to daily life, social and environmental challenges, and the mysteries of life and living systems.
BILBAO BIODIVERSITY CHALLENGE
The “Bilbao City Biodiversity Challenge” is an annual citizen science project aimed at secondary school students. The main objective is to help them collect open biodiversity data using the observation.org platform and apps. Additionally, the project aims to raise awareness and provide training on biodiversity, living systems, conservation, and the environment.
About the design collective
Biook is passionate about exploring life, investigating, and experimenting. For this reason, we have reimagined field and laboratory scientific practices, transforming them into workshops, experimental shows, projects, festivals and other science-based activities accessible to all. We also communicate science in English, Spanish and Basque with our science and society podcast “Biooklogia” available on our web, youtube channel and main platforms.
