About the event

The open-source movements and grassroots creators (makers) have revolutionised our thinking about creating and distributing knowledge, technology, and products. But what does OPENNESS mean for the creative world today?

On April 25th at 6:00 PM, the Warsaw Culture Observatory will host the inaugural event of the SPLOT Open series. The event is dedicated to the theme of OPENNESS and will explore initiatives that embody an open approach across various fields including science, culture, design, art, production, programming, and social engagement.

SPLOT Open is a new initiative of SPLOT Institute focused on sharing interdisciplinary practices and knowledge to address pressing social, environmental and economical challenges. It facilitates a new space for meetings, interactions and exchange of ideas that have openness in their DNA. The initiative delivers schemes for young creators from diverse backgrounds using their own methodology, successfully applied in international projects: SPLOT UA Residency, Direction Earth/Space Creative Campus and ART+DESIGN+SCIENCE.

The launch activities of SPLOT Open are in partnership with the Distributed Design Platform.

The event will feature presentations of projects (selected through an open call) which exemplify an open approach with elements like community management, open-licence availability, open data, transparent development, process decentralisation, circularity, and generativity. The evening agenda also includes a panel discussion “Open, defined how?” with Dr. hab. Bogna Gawrońska-Nowak, Dr. Edyta Ołdak and Kasia Świętochowska. The event will also offer plenty of opportunities for informal conversations and networking.
