About the event
For this year’s London Design Festival we are proud to be partnering with Tala, an award winning lighting brand founded on the premise that good design can help mitigate climate change.
Over a period of five days, each of the ten selected designers will use Tala’s sustainable, LED bulbs as inspiration to create lighting fixtures that can be manufactured anywhere in the world, using accessible digital manufacturing techniques.
We are looking for up to 10 designers, makers or enthusiasts to join us during London Design Festival, Friday 14th – Tuesday 18th September 2018, for an exhilarating 5 days of experimentation, prototyping and production at Tala’s new global headquarters, Tala Studios. We will go from design concept to exhibition in one week!
We will have access to Fab Lab equipment such as 3D printing, laser cutting and desktop CNC routing at London’s first Fab Lab, Machines Room. Participants will be provided with all materials, machine access, technical support, design support. As this is a sprint it will be beneficial if participants are familiar with at least one digital manufacturing technique and the relevant design software.
The four best designs will be promoted by the Distributed Design EU platform, and awarded a one month residency at Machines Room, London’s first Fab Lab, in order to finalise their design.
At the end of the workshops we will celebrate with a showcase of the designs at Tala Studios. Following this, the designs will be exhibited to the public for the rest of the week, during Tala’s Open Studio for London Design Festival.
