About the event

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the Distributed Design Finishing School. Over a period of five days, up to six designers and makers, will work together to refine their projects, identify and clarify potential, and create the path towards making it real

Apply now to Finishing School, a week long design sprint taking your student project one giant step towards being a viable product. We are looking for applicants who have recently graduated, who have designs that can be made anywhere by anyone but who could not finish them due to Lockdown. We are looking for projects that have been created with Open Design in mind but that have perhaps not had the chance to be made or tested.

This sprint will take place in Plus X, a state-of-the-art maker space equipped to develop and test your designs. Participants will make each other’s designs by instruction and we will reflect on the successes and failures of your specifications – can it really be distributed? Then, using the workshops you will refine and finish making your prototypes. You will document the process and create online instructions to be shared on Wikifactory.com and with the Distributed Design Network. The week will culminate in an exhibition of the finished work at Plus X’s inspiring innovation hub in Brighton.
