Short Description

An interactive robot that anyone can build, learn to code and make their own.

Detailed Description

Otto initially is a small dancing robot that brings people from all ages closer to technology; through hands-on making they learn the logical connection between mechanical components, electronics and code. Otto is truly open source in both hardware and software, this encourages anyone in the world to invent their own different versions with even more functions and features.

Thousands of "Otto Builders" are making and sharing their own custom robots everyday using 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC or any other DIY tool and materials.

We made sure to design Otto with the most common of the shelf parts, that are easy to find anywhere in the world and more importantly maintain, making educational robotics accessible. To fulfill the demand for our kits, we have a small 3D printer farm in Shenzhen and we are starting another one in the Czech Republic using a local producer of filaments from recycled materials, with the goal of creating probably the very first sustainable ed-tech robot.

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Yes educational and accessible, we bring an affordable product that is rich in education.But Thanks to Otto DIY open source nature, people do not need to buy from us, it has become one of the most replicated robots around the world especially in countries with low resources. Otto DIY is here to allow anyone to be ahead of the curve with the skills necessary for the future.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

By nature Otto is robot produced on demand, in the place is needed, the use of standard components make it very easy to replicate and repair, the only remaining part in the cycle is the plastic filament, We use only PLA that is produced using renewable resources but we also started tests with recycled PET filaments.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

From the start we have been completely Open Source, all source codes, libraries, software, 3D printed parts, hardware, CAD, blueprints, educational content and instruction manuals are free and available for anyone in the world. We document thoroughly all our creations in Wikifactory and Github for our Apps. Here our community shares and collaborates bringing amazing Otto’s to life!

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

We always encourage the community to "make your own robot" instead of consuming disposable toys that overflow the market. And incentive to follow our guidelines, practices and safety standards.
