Short Description

«Hybrid» is an eco-responsible manufacturing method to produce shoes made out of scrap materials.

Detailed Description

The project is based on the ecological impact of the production of our sneakers.
Shoe manufacturing sometimes requires more than 150 operations, dozens of chemical components based on solvents, synthetic elements and represents a real accumulation of materials (plastic, cotton, rubber, raw hides treated and dyed ...)

By comparing and hybridizing handcrafted and industrial techniques, «Hybrid» presents an eco-responsible manufacturing method for producing shoes.
Each part of the shoes are made out from waste materials from the production of other models.
For example The upper use weaving techniques to create mesh from leather and textile scraps. The traditional assembly and stitching techniques are reinterpreted to work directly with the sole and do not use any glue. The soles are made with old one, mixed and recomposed in a mould.
At the end, these prototypes are hybrids between traditional leather shoes and sneakers.

Project Details

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

By using upcycling process and wasted materials. Secondly by hybridizing hancrafted and industrial techniques, the project is trying to find a balance and to minimize the production.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Yes, all shoe or fashion and shoes companies are invited to let us collect the scraps and waste from their production.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

By showing that is possible to make shoe 98 % composed by scraps and wasted materials from the production of "normal sneakers" the project is raising question on our consumption and the fabrication process of our products.
