Short Description

Modular furniture made from leftover material from the concrete industry

Detailed Description

When ever a precast element for buildings are made, manufacturers have to make more wet concrete than is needed to secure that the mold will be filled. The leftover concrete is poured into a waste basin and usually disregarded and deemed as useless. We made smaller molds which can replace the waste basin, thus making use of this otherwise wasted material. "Heavy Swedish form" is a modular collection of furniture enabling interesting encounters and allowing time for contemplation. The units are combined to your liking and imagination and suit indoors as well as outdoors environments. The colours are inspired by the vibrant facades of older parts of Malmö. Each item is made of scrap concrete from other concrete production.
Project made in collaboration with Starka Betong

Project Details

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Yes, in alla aspects. Our design is made of waste, and it is modular to enable reuse and variety to lengthen the products lifespan.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Our design methodology is open for all to be inspired by and the production is not situation specific which means it could be copied in any part of the world where there is concrete production.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Yes, the storytelling behind the product is simple but strong and since it is primarily design for public spaces the communication has a greater chance of reaching a broader audience.
