lamp shader ikea cheap design recycle reuse

Short Description

Using 3d printing to transform cheap effective industrial objects into a design piece.

Detailed Description

We can enforce 3d printing to enable our industrial everyday objects to become special and uniquely decorate people apartments, recycling them into a new amazing life.
In this case, I took one of the most popular led lamps ever produced by IKEA, JANSJÖ.
We've seen it in kids room as bedside lamps, in offices, in kitchens to help reading recipes or even on mixer consoles to help musicians of all the world. This lamp is literally everywhere, in every apartment of people from each part of the world.
This shader will transform, in a `snap`, a simple led lamp into a magic abatjour.
The object consists in a printable shader that slides on top of the omnipresent IKEA lamp JANSJÖ. The object is divided in two pieces to allow easier printing and the painting of the inner side(optional).

Project Details

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

By reusing objects that are already widely diffused and fully functional to become a new piece of design, equally useful but simply different.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

The project is going to be shared, together with its source code, on gitlab and mirrored on Thingiverse.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Yes, by changing our perception of the objects that we have around. It shows people that the objects around them can be easily and cheaply repurposed, simply by printing a 1 euro model. Instead of buying a new lamp, modify the one you have.
