Short Description
We create vegan-leather using concrete, while preventing animal leather use and related pollution.
Detailed Description
Our story is a challenge. We were shocked when we saw the leather production and how much pollution it creates. Inspired by the search for new eco-sustainable materials for the transport and protection of items, we developed eco-leather concrete. This project is born in Tunisia, we are piloting the product in Italy and in the Czech Republic.
We want to create a material that replaces the animal leather,while it is disruptive,multipurpose and helps to minimise the environmental pollution.After several months of trying we achieved prototypes and used them to design bags and clothes.Making concrete eco-leather combines our passion for innovative work and love for nature and animals.
We created a bag made of eco-leather concrete.Original woven and sewn by our local craftsmen and possibility to customize the product.Unique and original, and available in different colors with typical cement finishes and shades.Eco-leather concrete is flexible and suitable for sewing with sewing machine.
Project Details
- Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?
This new product avoids violence, which is the base of our project. We organise workshops with local communities including kids.
- Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?
We use second-hand tissues as support for our concrete leather, we create environmentally friendly product by using local materials that don't harm.
- Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?
We consult our techniques openly and we share our learnings with the community through workshops in which we sensibilise the community about recycling, upcycling, alternative products not including plastics and animal products.
- Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?
We talk to our community and organise workshops. We use second-hand tissue and transform it into concrete (beton) leather. We also take back the used product and either repaired it or upcycle it.
