Ikego

Detailed Description

Ikego is an open collaborative and growing building system to build almost anything. It's made from multipurpose parts - it works like LEGO bricks but for the real world and optimized for decentralized manufacturing and development.

Project Details

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the OPENNESS value of the Distributed Design Platform?

The key to Ikego is multipurpose parts that are completely open. The components are well documented and follow a series of open design principles that are intended to enable decentralised production. The parts are material-independent and allow slight tolerances in the dimensions, which means that they can be produced anywhere using even simple tools.

The project has even developed its own licence to make the components truly open, because non of the existing solutions for making design open enabled the high level of openness the project needs for its parts.

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the COLLABORATIVE value of the Distributed Design Platform?

Ikego is an open design system. The solutions are comparable to LEGO models. They can easily be rebuilt into something else and invite creativity! Hack your home!

On the website all parts can be displayed individually for each product. For each part, all products in which this part appears can be displayed. → Just give it a try (click on a model and then the “parts list” button): https://ikego.world/category/products/

In short: An upgradable hackable home. Consumers and other designers are invited to creatively add further ideas for using components to the catalogue and make them available to everyone else. Let’s grow this together using simple open universal parts.

Co-design couldn't be easier.

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the REGENERATIVE value of the Distributed Design Platform?

Ikego is an answer to the question of what circular design would look like if it really took all the problems and ideas of circularity seriously.

The multipurpose part design approach supports all ten (!) circular practices from reuse to repurpose to recycling.

A brief introduction to this can be found here: https://ikego.world/about/#impact

A discussion of the system from the point of view of circularity can be found here: https://ikego.world/multipurpose-part-design/#circular

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the ECOSYSTEMIC value of the Distributed Design Platform?

Ikego is an approach to strong and truly sustainable circular design. It aims to spread “circular literacy” and “circular practices” among consumers and also producers.

The building system is intended to be a tool for professional work. Professional producers worldwide are invited to produce and sell products from the system – profit from it by offering their customers superior products with sustainable growing remix features. Designers can use the system for their professional work, offer to their clients better solutions.

The aim is to collaboratively invent a uniform standard that enables sustainable circular collaboration between different companies.

Why should producers use the system? There are good – economic – incentives for them. Find them here: https://ikego.world/ecosystem/#manufacturer-brief
