GEN.TXT:Algorithmic approaches to textile waste

Detailed Description

The project presents the design process of a sustainable and innovative seating, characterised by an original upholstery made from discarded waste materials reassembled with the help of genetic algorithms. It explores the optimisation of the production process through the automation of the recognition and assembly of scraps of regular and irregular fabrics from industrial textile production.

Project Details

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the OPENNESS value of the Distributed Design Platform?

GEN.TXT was created as a thesis project and therefore an open research project available to all for consultation, and also searches for as many minds as possible to make the project interdiciplinary and inclusive

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the COLLABORATIVE value of the Distributed Design Platform?

In fact, this project is supported by a web platform that allows users to customise the product of their choice (as it is a parametric model) making them an active part of the design process

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the REGENERATIVE value of the Distributed Design Platform?

This project has as its theoretical basis a reflection on the similarities between weaving and computer science and how one influences the other (in terms of binary codes), and from this reflection comes the aspiration to allow an automated system to generate the possible combinations to be weaved, using discarded fabrics.

In your project's current stage of development, how does it align with the ECOSYSTEMIC value of the Distributed Design Platform?

GEN.TXT deals with breathing life back into fabric waste through the use of genetic algorithms and generative design
