Detailed Description

Distributed Sustainability

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Important: only by shifting the point of view and understanding the problem and opportunities made and presented by the people you're designing to, true design is achieved

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Fundamental: in our project the bran of rice (a usually discarded product) is re-put in the cycle, making beneficial improvements in the system (no more expensive and polluted discarding of this product), thus opening opportunities for more people. It was fundamental consider already existing structure for making the project find it's true scope.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Fundamental: being open puts you in the difficult position of having to design for mostly everyone, but at the same time resolve this issue by making the project open to beneficial improvements and innovation.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Fundamental: In our project we had to consider the complexity of Japanese tradition in fermentation and how they could be applied in our context and design in a non disruptive manner, in order to make it accessible to everyone, while keeping this traditions.
