Detailed Description

Upon learning that the amount of eggshell waste produced annually equals that of plastic waste in the oceans, ceramic designer Pinar Aslanbay was motivated to repurpose eggshells as a design element. Her goal is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle by crafting functional and visually appealing objects from repurposed waste materials, giving them a second life with style and reducing our ecological footprint. The designed candle holders use eggshells and fruit peels. The formula is not complicated and easily can be practiced even in all kitchens.

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

My goal is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle by crafting functional and visually appealing objects from repurposed waste materials, giving them a second life, renewing them in order to use as a design element rather then just putting into the trash.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Our small everyday choices can have a meaningful impact on reducing our environmental impact while still enjoying a unique and functional design object in our everyday life. THerefore i try to encourage finding solutions to use food waste as a desing element in order to decrease our ecological effects.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

It is needed food waste to design the objects therefore citizens can become active participants by collecting their food waste and bring them to be recycled into a design objects.
