Detailed Description

Re-Bird is a project created by two students from the Visual Arts and Technologies Course at the Lisbon School of Education, within the scope of Product Design.
Its objective is to create a bird feeder to later be supplied to schools, in partnership with the Eco-Schools Program, with a view to an educational activity that will be the result of the interaction of children with the feeder.

Re-Bird is a product made of plywood in digital carpentry, designed to be easy to build at home, do it yourself, since it was build to assemble using a snapping/fitting system. When it comes to children, they can build it with the help of their parents or teachers, at school. The feeder also as a built in movement sensor that activates the camera system.

This alows us to observe and study the different species of birds that rest there. This aims to promote lots of activities associated with Re-Bird and also the use of a dynamic bird feeder.

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Re-Bird can be built in groups such as school classes, family or friends, promoting skills such as communication, teamwork and help-up. As for cultural challenges, Re-Bird helps expand knowledge about the diverse species of birds, parks and gardens in each region.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Re-Bird is a sustainable product and embodies circular design practices, through the plywood board, since it does not necessarily need to be purchased for this purpose, and can be used from existing and unused boards.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Re-Bird is an open source product where people can download the file for free to produce the product and the instruction manual to assist the assembly.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Re-Bird is a responsible product design minimizing the use of plywood to the maximum, monetizing the space needed for a board. There are no useless boards. Is a portable product, easy to assemble and disassemble and adaptable to various species of birds and regions of use, being designed with the aim of a single reproduction.
