Short Description
A collection of functional and esthetic 3d-printed objects that screw on top of the standard jars.
Detailed Description
We are 4 design students and friends, who decided we could have a small impact in the world with our freshly created design studio. We decided to use 3d-printers, as it now has become budget-friendly, environnemental friendly (if you buy the right filaments), and produce great quality products. This is how we came up with our name that revolves around the very process of 3d printing : extrude studio.
For this project, we were willing to create new objects in an ecological manner, so upcycling existing objects made sense from the start. We thought of objects that were widely used yet needed a container and this is how we started thinking about the upcycled jars collection. The contrast between fast mass-produced glass and slowly 3d-printed plastic makes up for an interesting duality.
Project Details
- Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?
We support sustainable production by 3D-printing the objects locally out of plastic made in Europe out of recycled packaging. All objects can be reprinted into filament spools if broken, or composted in an industrial composter, as they are made in a plant-based material.
- Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?
Several of our objects are available on cults3D, to make it easy for people to print the objects locally. We'll be adding more objects to cults3D overtime.
- Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?
By using upcycled jars, we can reduce the production of glass, thus encourage responsible consumption.
