Short Description

Lemna is a shared project centered around the creation of future-food solutions.

Detailed Description

Lemna got to life during the Master in Design for Emergent Futures program as
a binding derivative between sustainable design, agri-tech and future-food alternatives.
With a distributed and applied-design approach, we developed on a series of multi-faceted themes where it wanders into radical new roads exploring it’s future in a broad spectrum of know-hows. It’s recognised by open-sourced knowledge systems and touches upon a defined series of urgent + contemporary scenarios, including the food of tomorrow, rural futures and shared learning. Since it’s recent kick-off, Lemna has already resulted in series of approaches comprising an Agri-drone, a Water-lentil Incubator and a Hybrid multi-sensorial monitoring system + device. By applying to Distributed Design contest we intend to bring Lemna’s approach and solutions to the self-reliant ecosystem it proofs to resonate with. So as to continue to explore and construct meanings in various transitions towards a biologically revitalized future

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Yes, all features are openly accessible unhiding more in-depth specific knowhow in a accessible manner, activating people to take their own stances towards its solutions.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Lemna works with local suppliers, short logistics and well-considered material usage to create understandable, fixable solutions.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

All documentation is constantly being updated and is openly available to whoever's interested. Working files are shared per request.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Yes. Lemna tries to show alternative ways of approaching growing food systems and does this by going against the stream of enclosed R&D systems and rethinking the interaction of our foods.
