Detailed Description
With the intention of changing the way we measure time and the relationship we have with clocks, I thought of ways to relate to time in a more natural and not so mental way, more circular and not so linear, I asked myself: What can I control in a minute? What can I control in a minute to be aware of the duration of the changes and the implicit movement of the whole? I immediately thought of breathing. While it is true that breathing is an unconscious action, it is also unique that we can bring it under conscious control.

We breathe twice or even three times as much as we need to. We live in a hyperventilating society. Coherent breathing is simply a matter of adjusting the time spent in each of these phases of breathing.With the idea of practising healthier breathing patterns and exercising lung capacity I have designed templates for clocks that mark different optimal times for each of the phases.
In this way the clock is centred on an internal time and not an external time.

- Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?
Like many other people of my generation I have suffered from anxiety and stress problems from a relatively young age. As a teenager my parents enrolled me in a sophrology group, since then I have been practising meditation and different breathing exercises on a daily basis. During all these years of practice I have learned how our breathing has a great influence on our state of mind. When we hyperventilate - i.e. breathe more than we need - short, fast breaths we put our nervous system on alert, which activates the sympathetic flight state. On the other hand, when we take slow, deep breaths we activate our parasympathetic system.
- Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?
the prototypes are currently made of acrylics and digitally manufactured (laser). In the future and with the prize money I would like to be able to continue developing the designs and find another more sustainable material for their production but at the same time keep the aesthetics.
- Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?
yes, the idea is for them to be self-producing. Even if is a version of the design made on a paper template that you can print and install in your old clock.
