About the project
Zibuttonia is an upcycling project that re-imagines second hand shirts into a new narrative that enhances transformation and multi-functional garments using buttons and zippers. The idea is to create “a garment that you can build”, starting from an item, using the inserts of other elements to get more configurations of the garment. Thus, a corset that becomes a top, a dress, another dress with a different silhouette and length..etc. this Zero waste collection utilised 3 thrifted white shirts to get 15 different configurations, an approach that not only gives a second life to these shirts but makes them emotionally valuable to the owners, thus hardly discarded.
About the talent
I am an Egyptian Fashion designer with a background in Architecture, something that inspired most of my work in fashion. Also, I am very interested in channeling my Egyptian identity through my designs, reflecting in particular on the ancient Egyptian culture. My work explores historical, artistic and craftsmanship intersections with a scope on sustainability as well.
In 2022 I moved to Milan to pursue a Master’s degree from politecnico di milano- fashion design. Which enhanced my technological approach to the industry, in particular Artificial intelligence as the topic of my thesis. I worked as a jewellery designer with an Egyptian brand “Arena Palai” and currently working as a freelancer with other Egyptian brands as a bag designer as well.
