About the project

Nika Ravnik (1981) is a fashion and costume designer who pays special attention researching the structure and shape of clothing. She graduated in fashion and textile design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana and upgraded her studies at Central Saint Martins in London and Designskolen Kolding in Denmark. She lives and works in Ljubljana, and is also a member of the Galerija GT Cultural Society. The ethos of her work is sustainably oriented, focusing on mindful design approach, such as the “zero-waste” principle, the “one-size-fits-all” concept and the principle of versatility. Simple geometric shapes form the basis of garments, which are transformed into authentic wearable creations through experimentation and manipulation of details. Following a conceptual aspect the aesthetics reflects a touch of avant-garde and timelessness.

Projects

FRAGMENTS

“Fragments” is a sustainable collection manipulating the materials with the zero-waste approach. It transforms different kinds of textiles into innovative fabrics. This collection draws inspiration from the principles of architecture, art, and interactive design to create a multifaceted fashion experience. Each garment is a unique piece, crafted from leftover, deadstock, vintage and some new fabrics embodying the stories of the past and the promise of new beginnings.

LALULI

The enchanting LALULI collection is a captivating exploration of the human psyche’s hidden realms. Like a reawakened volcano, it delves into dormant memories, erupting into a vivid mosaic of emotions. Through vibrant, original patterns and texture experiments, this collection vividly embodies the tumultuous journey within.
LALULI’s essence lies in sustainability, with »zero-waste« design at its core. Each piece is a testament to mindful creation. Embracing a harmonious coexistence with nature, the collection integrates mesmerizing eco-friendly prints that further echo its environmental commitment. Beyond a mere assemblage, LALULI is an odyssey of self-discovery, artistry, and a pledge to nurture our planet gently.

TRACES

The collection titled ‘Traces’ is a subtle but useful free-form study. Individual pieces want to evoke a feeling of levitating in the unknown, where they leave memorable traces behind. The versatile dresses are designed using the “zero-waste” technique from high-quality archival materials. The concept of “create from what you already have” limits choice and requires original solutions with an ongoing sustainable process. The poetic fashion film reflects the relationship between the human body and clothing through dance movements with an experimental note. In the contact and movement of body and textile, the attentive observer feels liberty as a counterbalance to the too fast pace of the modern world.
