Born in Paris and based in Bilbao, Andrea Petit is a multidisciplinary designer and artist. Her practice lies at the intersection of art and science, employing photography, video, and performance to explore the invisible connections between living beings and their environment.

Inspired by scientific observation, she experiments with microbiological and chemical procedures to create immersive visual narratives. Through chemical manipulations and microscopy, she transforms abstract concepts such as memory and love into biological phenomena that are imperceptible to the human eye. These phenomena become visual metaphors, revealing the sensitive and poetic dimensions of these emotions and memories. Her approach, which straddles the boundary between science and poetry, invites us to reflect on the role of humanity within an interconnected ecosystem.

She has exhibited and presented her work in various national and international venues, including Matadero in Madrid and the International Festival of Experimental Photography in Barcelona. She has also participated in artistic residencies, such as at LABoral Centro de Arte, with the support of the French Institute.

Projects

LA COULEUR DU SOUVENIR

Petri Dish Jewelry is a tool designed to bring memories to life. The project invites participants to interact with the object, leaving their mark and creating pieces with a unique, intimate, and living story. The artist cultivates microorganisms collected through each person’s interaction with the tool and analyses the sample under a microscope to produce intentionally abstract photographs that powerfully convey the delicacy of the ephemeral: memory. These photographs emerge from a collaboration between the living world, the participant, and the artist.

SPIRITUS MUNDI LIVE

The intrinsic curiosity of humankind has led science to become a bridge between the visible and the invisible. Telescopes, microscopes, and other tools of analysis have emerged to allow humans, in their spatial and visual dimensions, to transcend. In this way, dimensions multiply, frames of reference are unsettled. This distance compels us to reconsider and reimagine our reality but, above all, to see it with fresh eyes.
