Short Description

Sokee is a coffee maker whose materials come from the aluminum and coffee grounds from coffee pods.

Detailed Description

Sokee is a coffee machine born from an unlimited recycling cycle of the materials of its own pieces and coffee capsules.
Materials: aluminum (coming from the used aluminium coffee pods), glass for the water tank (100% recyclable, hygienic and does not degrade over time), and coffee bioplastic (made up of coffee grounds waste mixed with natural adhesives and wood particles from sustainable sources, which form a liquid that is later injected into molds).
Front cylinder: contains all the components. It can rotate up to 90º each side (adaptability). Includes a capsule container with a lower compartment to collect possible drips and a removable coffee outlet nozzle with an aluminum coating at the points of contact with heat.
Clamps: They hug the front and rear cylinder, providing greater support and robustness to the set.
Rear cylinder: the water tank. It is connected to the front cylinder through the bases.
Bases: They gIve support to the set. In the back, a retractable cable is stored.

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Sokee is a coffee machine that seeks the balance between the education and the requirements of the society. Environmental degradation is a hot topic, and people are willing to do their bit to change it. What Sokee provides is a solution to this problem, without prohibiting or changing consumption habits, offering a recycling reward system that encourages users to act. It is a unification of sustainability and efficiency.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

The goal is to create a business model that feedbacks itself, by using coffee waste to produce new coffee machines, and thus creating an infinite cycle. It looks forward being a 100% sustainable product, that maintains a premium image and adjusts to the efficiency that users seek.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Sokee has nothing to hide. It is designed to be easy to assemble and disassemble, so the user can personally take away any non-functioning piece and recycle it. This makes the product more economic in the long run, and generates a bond between the user and its Sokee coffee machine due to its uniqueness.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Sokee avoids any kind of programmed obsolescence. Using the Wabi-Sabi philosophy as a reference, it wants to be a permanent and unique product in each home. It encourages the user to regard Sokee as a lifetime experience, even as if the product had soul and to accept its flaws and take care of it by repairing it instead of throwing it straight away.
