Short Description

Digital clothing made real: an innovative and sustainable take on fashion.

Detailed Description

In the challenging times of pandemic, riots, closed borders, struggling industries and panic, an opportunity for transforming digital tech into sustainability has arrived. Fashion, now more than ever, has found a way to slow down and become cleaner, stripping down to the essentials.
‘’Laocoön: Digital Endeavour’’ tells the story of technology digitalizing real art - from the core of design to its creation. Innovation meets tradition and transforms it into something environmentally friendly.

A game changer: Why? How?

All garments within the SS21 Collection were designed digitally using 3D simulation, which eliminated 75% of the waste that comes with the prototyping and production phase of garments. No paper was used.
By using digital printing on natural and synthetic fibers, the work of Romanian contemporary painter Stefan Ungureanu - Laocoön, the subject of Roman and Greek myths - was seamlessly replicated, which brings value to this collection and makes it special.

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

The streetwear collection features seven unique looks for any gender. Tackling the aspect of inclusivity and freedom of choice, the project presents itself with five genderless items, that can be worn by anybody. By making the collection wearable, the theme of sustainability was one more time addressed: the more you need it, the less chance it is you’ll throw it away.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

All garments within the SS21 Collection were designed digitally using 3D simulation, which eliminated the waste that comes with the prototyping phase of garments. More than 75% of fabric that usually gets lost in the design process was eliminated by using technology. By using laser cutting machines, paper was saved and the accuracy of each pattern was increased. This allows the production to go smoothly and the garments to be stitched beautifully.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Using 3D development in the design process, allows the creator to use the resources more mindfully and envision the project better. This shows that, it is possible to create amazing things with less or no waste. Based on this idea, this collection is an example of will and an encouragement to people who believe it is possible to move towards a more sustainable production.
