Short Description

I design urban backpacks for garbage collection and its delivery to the recycling stations.

Detailed Description

I’m a graphic designer, who experienced the recycling-at-home problem. The process of collecting garbage and delivering it to the recycling station is inconvenient and hard in my hometown Kyiv. There are no state services that organize pickup of sorted trash. In Kyiv we have a is a volunteer organisation "nowasterecyclingstation". But you need to get there yourself if you want your garbage recycled. If you don't have your own car it is a problem. And the cars pollute the environment! To cope with this problem, I have created a backpack from used advertising banners. It's a practical container for collecting and transporting waste to the recycling stations. It is my personal manifestation of awareness. The idea of DINNER project is to simplify the process of delivering of sorted trash. I wanted to turn the drama of waste delivery into a fun and enjoyable process. Getting your trash to the recycling station becomes as easy as wearing a backpack while biking!

Project Details

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

I want to give the power to people to help change the world. They can feel responsibility for the trash they produce. DINNER positively impacts the environment as well as the lifestyle. Using a car to transport trash to the recycling station pollutes air. A convenient backup encourages people to use public transport or a bicycle. Using a backpack makes organizing trash an easy, fun and sustainable process. Just get a bag and use it as a bag and as a trashcan whenever you want. It’s your best recycling friend. Easy to clean.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

DINNER bag is a reusable, water-repellent and robust waste management container and a stylish urban backpack all in one. Perfect for environmentally conscious bike-riding people. DINNER bag is designed from recycled ad banners and handcrafted in Ukraine. It's created to address a waste management problem in our country. As a designer I would like to make life easier for those who would like to recycle.
How to use the DINNER bag:
1. Collect your waste in the container
2. Close it when it’s full
3. Wear the backpack to the nearest recycling station

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

Taking care of our planet is just as important as having a meal. That’s why I named my brand DINNER. People have dinners every day. Meals keep us alive and active. So does a healthy relationship between humans and nature. The health of our planet largely depends on humanity right now. I want DINNER to be a statement where conscious consumption is no longer a choice, but a necessity. One of the key concepts behind the idea of the DINNER bag is that it can be used as a container for collecting and transporting contents including waste which is left after having a meal. Our food is heavily packaged, and the packages should be properly recycled every time. By naming my bags DINNER I want to underline the importance of cleaning up waste after every meal. DINNER is a project centered around the idea of recycling. It is a manifestation of awareness and the result of two years of research on the recycling process in the city of Kyiv.
