Short Description

AHĀ-NEK is a minimal, sustainable, innovative cloth hanger, made to protect cloths with fixed necks.

Detailed Description

-

AHĀ-NEK is a minimal, sustainable, innovative cloth hanger made to protect clothing pieces with necks and fixed collars. Consisting of two interlocking, wooden sticks, the hanger slides easily in and out any garment’s neck, without stretching it. The prototype was produced using leftover bamboo pieces from the local carpenter while the manufacturing process is based on local timber. In this way AHĀ-NEK actively supports a circular and eco-friendly way of making, while showcasing and exporting local expertise.

AHĀ-NEK started as a playful, unique idea that became a hand-crafted, statement-making design. It is a 100% locally produced, problem solving, affordable, design solution made out of natural materials. An application of functionality, curiosity and craftsmanship, that fills in a gap in the market. By turning our focus on such products and ways of responsible production, a better quality of living can be promoted.

Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?

Maybe the "human well being"is too much to state for our product, however AHĀ-NEK cloth hanger contributes on an playful way of living. And we believe this does certainly add an important value to our lives.

AHĀ-NEK hanger appeals to the imagination of the user,as it is calling for action. Only through interaction it can be ‘of service’. At the same time, Its high mobility values (being small, light-weighted, transformable and easy to use), make it the perfect travelling companion. And actually, taking into consideration the modern, flexible and mobile way of living, we believe that it's not only a "travelling companion" but a product with a sense of locality. A product that can add a homie-feeling.

AHĀ-NEK is a reshaped everyday use object, which -till now- used to go unnoticed. Something pleasant to see and touch, regardless its use. In this way, it raises questions about the products we decide to surround ourselves with, supporting a more imaginative way of living.

Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?

Our prototype was produced using leftover bamboo pieces from the local carpenter while the manufacturing process is based on local timber. In this way AHĀ-NEK actively supports a circular and eco-friendly way of making, while showcasing
and exporting local expertise and craftsmanship.

Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?

Not yet but we are aiming to that. This is the reason why we decided to share out design product and principle idea, instead of securing it with a patency.

Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?

AHĀ-NEK is a refined object full of context; it values beauty and treasures efficiency, while providing a haptic experience of space. On an individual level, AHĀ-NEK cloth hanger, could help in establishing a sustainable mentality around every day-use objects. It is a 100% locally produced, problem solving, affordable, design solution made out of natural materials. By turning our focus on such products and ways of responsible production, a better quality of living could be promoted.
