Detailed Description
Pet Lamps is a project based on the principle of up-cycling. The purpose of this project is to transform a common everyday object into a functional object having a better attractive value. The question about values of objects is one of my main inspirations, furthermore the project promotes the making process by acting on the material itself. Pet is a series of single lamp, realized from plastic bottles, cut into threads and molded by thermoforming technique in order to create a new shape. This part is made by hand, so each lamp is unique. The wood or PLA base which holds the plastic structure and the LED bulb, is made with digital tools. (3D printer or CNC machine).
The 4 Watts LED bulb ensures a good security for the lamp and the users because is not warm.

- Does your design take social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration?
Well, I believe that my project is source of connections between me and people who are looking for making nice and fun stuff made out of banal things. I enjoy sharing my personal approach, to surprise and being amazed also.
My project emphasis an experience of making a lamp while promoting up-cycling. So, as a designer, I really like to share light as a source of people’s wellbeing. Moreover, I developed a technical process in order to provide food for thinking a new society’s paradigm.
- Does your design support sustainable production, embodying circular or regenerative design practices?
My design proposes to reuse industrialized object made of plastic into more valuable outcome. There are, unfortunately, plastic bottles everywhere in the world so it can be applied as global experimentation for Makers. I would like to demonstrate the power of experimenting with making process and hijacking standard product in order to transform it into a unique object.
Of course, I took care of other materials that composed the lamp which have to be respectful for humans and environment. The base is made from natural beech or PLA with recycled pine particles. (CNC machines have been used to make this part)
- Does your design use principles of distribution and open source?
Well, I applied Public License for my project (Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA) for some free access into my research for the community. A video of the making process and all plans are available on my website.
As a design studio, I need also to have the possibilities to continue research into new materials and processes from selling objects.
- Does your design promote awareness of responsible design and consumption?
I tried to redefine the value of material and object as well. I would like to open people’s minds according to daily life objects. I think that catching attention with curious object could encourage people to think and consume differently. Traditional or digital fabrication have to be used as tools to develop projects with sense.
